Foot Stomp Seasoning Skew?

I have been noticing some that are closing some heavy grippers. But failing when someone sends them a "hard" #3. They subsequently rate this #3 at a 3.5. I guess it is good for the ego. The common thread seems to be that when this happens the "failer" has almost always foot stomped the crap out of his own grippers.

Really how can a #3 be anywhere in the neighborhood of a SuperElite? Or a RB300?

Stop kidding yourselves!

Saturday - 7/29 - GRIP

Got up at 430 to do some crap at work. Ate light yesterday, too many phone calls at the desk.
630AM
Trainer x20 each hand
Left - #1 x10, Shiny #2 - speed/overcrush
Filed #3 - 3 singles/pkus long holds. 1/4" filed off. Missing full close by a tad.

Right 10 singles with PDA Blobette - 43.5lbs. Worked up to +5lbs Platmates.

Went into this workout feeling a bit flat.

I'm going to hit the YMCA, then keep arms covered in Jack's Blue Heat.

Does not get any simpler

No $100 three foot ropes or $200 Formulator's, or ancient "hand balancing" courses or 4 insulting emails per day needed.
Just find a fuking rock and go at it.

Credit Card Set - AGAIN

I was beginning to loose faith on the gripboard. It has been a couple of weeks and no new thread on the unfairness of the credit card set. Thank god one started today!

Look, pinheads - The ones complaning about it aren't that much good gripwise anyway, anyone else has too much of an inflated ego to back off and re-climb.

Stay out of my way.
;)

Friday - 7/28

YMCA - 530AM
Pilates.

Thursday, July 27, 2006

Thurs - 7/27 - Part 2

Hit the garage this afternoon.
8lb sledge work, arm hanging at side levers - feeder workout.
3x10 front
3x10 rear

Thurs - 7/27

5AM
Lower Back/Abs
Upright Rows w/ Apollon's Axle - 123x20 143x20 163x20 183x20 203x22
Quick pace on these. "Svend" style.
Seated DB Hammer Curls - 2.5inch - 88.75lbsx3each 88.75lbsx3each
Lower arms SMOKED.

Added 1/2lb to PDA Blobette - 43.5lbs
Left - 6 negative holds - topped at +10lbs in Platemates
Right - 6 full deadlifts

Stopped. Don't want to dig in too deep. Thick bar stuff is brutal.

In case you are joining in late. The PDA Blobette (mine anyway) is much harder to get off the ground than the Blob50. It is taller and wider and a bit smoother. My Blob50 is 51lbs. A full deadlift with the Blob50 is about equal to 46lbs on the Blobette. Your mileage may vary.

Phantom Number 4's and Other Fables

The gripboard is all afire over the Phantom Number 4 "mythos" as well as the Silver Crush number 3. Look grippers vary. I have no doubt the silver crush #3 was tough. But to elevate it to some gripper that only a handful can close is getting borderline fantasy. The "Phantom Number 4" was calibrated by PDA, when they were in the calibration game. It supposedly tested harder than any number 4, how convenient.

If you do some Gripboard searches on the gripper calibration fiasco, you will soon find out that most of the measurements that PDA produced were basically duck shit.

Richard Sorin has measured the old number 3 with a .287 spring and the new number 3's at .280. Everyone else hase measured the number 3 at .281.

Frankly this debate is a complete waste of time.

Look, oldtime legends, your place has been set. No need to constantly stroke your own ego. It starts to get boring.

Newbies, stop encouraging this shameful behavior. It is embarassing to the gripworld.

Flame off.

Wed Workout - 7/26

Look at this turd. Put a fuking shirt on!

Tuesday - Post Mortem

I was going to hit some light stuff this afternoon, but I just loaded the iPod with the new Slayer cuts. I'm taking the dog out instead.

Lower arms a bit sore.

I still need to get the Blob50 outside for farmer walks, but the humidity has been through the roof.

Honored

I see one of the grip greats has been checking the neighborhood.
I envy the great weather in South Carolina!

I still think the recent blob lift should be put
back on the GB cert list. ;)

What The Frig

What is it with skinny "gripnut" teenagers going to every strongman forum that they can find and posting that they closed a #3 as a teenager. WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK!

Look, fella's - the guys on those boards are doing 300-400 lb farmers walks, 1000pound tire flips, etc. They are not concerned with some child constantly harping about having "bowling pin forearms" and "ONLY being 16,17,18,19".

;)

Another Legend

I just saw that another grip legend posted that a #3 close is just average. Tell that to all the people that are knocking their cocks off to close it.

I truly believe that the "Legend" tagline should NEVER be used in a profile tagline.

;)

Hit the first row hard. Rest of workout was quick pace. Need to have some energy tomorrow.

More On The Blob-Tilt Controversy

I see a new thread started on the gripboard to discuss the "Legend's" critique of a recent blob certification.

I think it is evident by this current thread and a few older threads that someone is having a hard time accepting that others are performing his feats.

The grip world is a cess pool of vanity.
;)

Saturday - 7/22 - GRIP

Got up at 430AM to do some crap at work.
Woke feeling "clumsy".

Still feeling "clumsy"

Thurs - Post Mortem

Lower arms a bit sore.

I am still puzzled about the recent blob lift "critique" on the gripboard. Others have clearly tipped it a bit when picking it up. I think this is dictated by the size of your hand, especially thumb size/position.

The rules on the GB:

1. Must fully deadlift
2. Only chalk allowed.
3. A picture, video, or credible witness from the Gripboard is required.

No mention of having to pull it up in a perfectly straight line.

Look at this video - the lift is about 2-1/2 minutes in. This was used as a gripboard cert video. Please note I have NO problem with it:

Prodigy Video at Dieselcrew

He is clearly "tipping" it.

This recent "debate" and giving up the cert by the lifter would constitute a RULE change. I still can't figure out what the hell is wrong. I guess "legends" have better eyes. I can imagine if Ironmind was giving blob certifications and they instituted this "clarification", there would be 8 pages of posts complaining of hand unfairness.

We should go a step further and mail Mr. Sorin's blob around, since that is considered the only real blob by some.

Perhaps a grip legend should make a video of proper technique. ;)

Hmmmmm.

Thurs - 7/20

5AM
Lower Back/Abs. Abs inbetween all sets also.
Upright Row w/ Apollon's Axle - 123x20 143 4setsx20 148x20. Fast pace.
Seated DB Hammer Curl - 2.5" - 83.75x5each, short rest 80x5each

Blobette work - 43.0lbs base weight.
Left - 6 negative/holds - finished with +7.5lbs of platemates
Right - Full deadlifts, worked up to +5lbs, did a few holds with +7.5lbs added.

The thick barbell/db work destroys the lower arm.

The PDA blobette is more difficult to pull than the Blob50. The little fuker has a mind of its own.

Still in the middle of a heat wave here. Makes everything feel a bit heavier. ;)

A flaming turd for a brain

Just saw this over farmstrength:

Dave Lemanczyk -
"Training with jump stretch bands and The Formulator is THE worst idea I have ever read in my life. Honestly, it IS the worst piece of "attempted training" I have ever witnessed. Risk WAY over benefit.

Training is simple and when kept that way it is most productive. There is no sense in reinventing the wheel."

Of course this blowhard offers NO reasons why. I guess we have to wait for the his "e-book". Mr Lemanczyk has since been removed from the friendly forum.

Musings

I just saw on the gripboard, a strong fellow dominate a York50 blob. A while later
Richard Sorin chimes in that the lift is not acceptable since the lifter tipped the blob to its side a bit before lifting. Sometimes I wonder about the "Grip Brotherhood"

EDIT: The Blob lifter asked to be taken off the list because of Mr. Sorin's "critique". A commendable motion BUT un-necessary. Nearly every blob video has some "tilt" to it.

Over at grippermania, some are awaiting with baited breath on which cert a #4 chaser will go for first. The #3 or the #4.

Me, I'm taking my dog out. There are enough people selling crazy on my street, I don't need to see it on the "inter-net". ;)

Wed Workout - 7/19

The HUNT for the Number 4 Gripper

Since it adds a certain prestige and mystique, I am formerly announcing that I am chasing the #4 gripper.

Seriously, it seems every couple of months a few clowns show up on the forums, announce they are going to close the #4, they start the Joe Kinney workout, then they go into oblivion. The biggest amusement are the ones that claim they want to be the first to certify on the #4 without certing on the #3.

Oh well, back to mortality.

Proof

When I forst joined the gripboard, about 2-1/2 years ago. There was a strong demand for proof. Mostly everyone was kept legit. I remember some claiming to pull a number 4 to within a 1/4 inch meeting ridicule and demands for proof. Others claimind to close a number 3 gripper once every minute for an hour. There were demands that he make a one hour video. A couple of guys bent 100 Ironmind Red nails in one hour, again a tape was demanded, etc etc etc

Now we have pinheads claiming to hold the #4 shut, or nosetting it to 1/4", or front levering 12 lb sledges, squashing Super Elites etc etc etc. And there is back slapping all around. I will note that the ones claming to smash the big grippers have also noted that they jump up and down on them to season them. Big fuking surprise.

Oh well, flame off.

EDIT: 7/15

I just noticed a log where someone is claiming multiple braced closes with the #4, Two years ago the claimer would be ridiculed non stop until video proof was submitted. Now we congratulate. There are old threads on the gripboard expressing doubt that Joe Kinney never closed the 4. Now we have multiple logs of 4 "chasers".

Hmmmm.

Hands are pretty wiped now.

Ape Strength

There is an argument of the gripboard (again) about hand strength in primates. Obviously some of these brainiacs have not visited a good zoo, and are doubting the strength of apes etc.

Go punch a chimp in the face, you will learn in about 3 seconds how strong they are.

Further proof the public school system is a disaster.

Seasoning Bullshit

Another thread just started on the gripboard about seasoning. Apparently some are worried that they are not getting stronger with a new gripper because the gripper is getting weaker as they work with it. It only took one response to get to the 100 rep foot stomp, bend spring solution.

Look people, stop being fuking morons. If you are not closing the #3, it is because you are not strong enough. It is not because Ironmind sent you a #3 that is harder than anything in the universe. AND STOP JUMPING UP AND DOWN ON THE GRIPPER.

Interesting Formulator Thread on the Gripboard

A self-important bonehead started a thread on the Gripboard to compare formulator workouts. It looks like there are 6 owners so far of the formulator.

Do yourself a favor, save your money, get a few sledgehammers, make a formulator (it will work just as well) and do some thick handled dumbbell hammer curls.

Here is a link to get you started on some EXCELLENT Home-made stuff:
