Rising Fucking Fuel Costs?
We just got the latest hyperventilating "BIG Announcement" from the Fictional Hand Group. "Due to Rising Fuel Costs..." the price of ---insert overpriced crap here-- is going up. What the FUCK? I just paid $1.59 per gallon for regular gas. I was paying $4.39 a couple months ago. Are the "Trailer Park Boys" writing their ad copy now?

Aging is tough. The hardest part for me has been coming to grips with the fact that some of the physical abilities I took for granted when I was younger deteriorated before I really had the chance to appreciate them. I thought I would be fit and healthy forever, and then it's like I woke up one day and suddenly I couldn't see as well, my hearing was bad, and when I went to pull a 40-ton timber truck 110 feet, I could barely get the thing moving.
As a 54-year-old World's Strongest Man, I like to think I've aged with dignity and grace. But as I enter my golden years of deadlifting 17,000 silver dollars, I realize that you must approach life with a certain amount of acceptance. Acceptance that you just can't walk up to a Mack truck filled with 40,000 pounds of coal, strap yourself into a harness, grab a rope, and start hauling anymore. Christ, these days I'm sore for a whole week after pulling 20,000 or even 15,000 pounds of coal. Sometimes, depending on how my old bones feel in the morning, I have to replace the Mack truck with a smaller dump truck, or a tractor.

New Ironmind Rolling Thunder
The UPS guy just dropped it off. It is a HUGE step up from the original. The handle has a texture that most resembles a vinyl record album. The machining and fit of the steel is excellent. I have not weighed it, but it has more "heft" than the original.

We have been relishing the couple threads trying to legitimize old time arm wrestler Mac Batchelor's record. We love the "undefeated" claims. All his matches were in bar-rooms. We are guessing that many of his opponents were of the calibre of "Otis", Mayberry's town drunk. Who was keeping track of his "1000's" of opponents? Especially amusing was the claim of one hand pinch gripping two 80 pound plates, then walking with them. Yeah, riiggght. Just because "lore" appears in a book, does not make it true.
We have no doubt he was strong. But this "Old Time Strongman" mentality gets a bit fatiguing.

PLATE PINCH TIP
Our local Home Depot has a variety of chains up to 3/8 inch. Any of them
will easily fit through the hole on an Olympic plate. Depending on what you
use you should be able to get multiple chains through the hole. This makes for grate micro
loading. For fatter chains, simply get some strong epoxy coated magnets, then attach your
5/8 inch chain pices to each side of the plate. These MAGNETS work great. The magnets should be placed right at the hole overlapping a bit on the empty space. This will make removing them easy.
Why the chains? Many of you may have discovered that is it easier to pinch objects off the
ground with 2 hands, then let go and hold/pinch the implement fairly confidently. But breaking the object off the ground with the single hand is a ball buster. The chains will allow you to work on breaking the object from the ground, then quickly get heavier as you approach lockout. This works.

Back
Got too tied up with too many things. Did not miss a workout. May have had the biggest pinch day left handed with the PDA blobette and added weight yesterday. I need to check the logs. The 45's are coming along with added weight also. Pinching the bigger plates seems to work the whole arm
intensely but the blob type work seems to stay local to the hand and wrist. Of course this may vary depending on your physical make-up.
In our brief visits to our beloved grip forum, we were pleased to see another hand size thread start. ;) The phrases "hand size" and "credit card set" should be banned.
We have got some amusement out of the "I'm quitting school to become a strongman thread". We are all for following your dreams. Better to try and fail, than spend your life miserable and wondering. If you make it, great. If you fail, and end up living under a bridge, giving handjobs to old chickenhawks for a few bucks food money and to save for a bus ticket home, well say la vi.

Interesting how some legends and oldtime strongmen are silent with condolences on the GB about the PDA founder. One legend has been milking the "621" Phantom #4 calibration for eternity. PDA was instrumental in this measurement. We will reserve judgement for a while longer.

It's sad that the 3.5 certification thread soundly established that Ironmind lets the rules slide for some and not others. The legend wished everyone good luck who is pursuing the 3.5, but no mention of his protege doing over, properly. We remember not too long ago where our legend made a "no tilting" rule up on the spot and seemed to shame the gripster into foregoing his addition to the Blob list. Our "legend" commended him. We guess it only goes one way in gripdom.
Time for a soppresatta sandwich.

What the fuck? Did we just see someone posting UPS tracking information to prove that a 3.5 gripper was sent by Ironmind to the legend's grip lair? All this proves is a "box" was sent from point A to point B. We are not going to address the rest of the nonsense. It is sad to see the legend's acolytes defending a flawed certification. Integrity demands that the certification be done over correctly. It is frustrating to see a fellow gripster asking for clarification on why someone other than Tex inserted the credit card, and having his inquiries deflected by UPS receipt scans. All we see from our vantage point, is that no one took the time to read and Ironmind let rules slide. This situation can easily be corrected by admitting the certification was tainted, and do it over. It is obvious the strength is there. Even us "armchair" gripsters know right from wrong. ;)

We are sitting here with our jaws on the floor. It seems the latest twist in our #3.5 CoC gripper Certification may have been conducted with a 3.5 gripper that was "in stock" at a our favorite "Grip Legend's" facility. What the Fu' ? We were led to believe that Iromind must send the cert gripper?
From the fabled Ironmind Site:
"We will send the judge a brand
new Captains of Crush Gripper for you to use for your closing.
Your judge will open the gripper in your presence, and you are
welcome to do a few warm-up reps on it before
going for your close. "
Look folks it is PAINFULLY obvious that Tex's certification was pre-arranged well in advance to ensure he was first on the 3.5 list. It appears our strong friends from around the world got tossed under the bus, to perpetuate a "southern grip legend's" wishes to remain relevant.
Some sanctimonious gripsters have called for the end of this hot debate. We must respectfully disagree. We have seen the competitive arm of this niche sport develop over the past half decade to establish a set of rules that MUST be followed to achieve and maintain credibility. Many of you have "suffered" through the endless threads hammering out the details of calibrated weights, standard implements, and rules to qualify for national and world contests. Rules must be followed to grant all participants a level playing field. When we grant exceptions, we risk losing our integrity.

As some have astutely pointed out, the "legend" and his protege both certified by having
someone other than the gripster insert the credit card between the handles.
From Ironmind's own site:
"...and the gripster must show the official that he has an acceptable starting position by using his non-gripping hand to slide the end of a credit/ATM card in between the ends of the handles. Once this is done, the official will give the signal to remove the card and begin the attempt..."
What the fuck? Others break their balls following the rules, and the favored few get a pass?
This certification is becoming about as legit as the High School "Who's Who" scam.

Concentration Hammer curls with 2.5" dumbbell
There was a recent thread on the GB about attaching weights for pinch work. If you
have the cash, the best bang for the buck will be magnetic Platemates. I have multiple
pairs of 5/8lb, 1.25lb,2.5lb and 5lb. They will become a solid mass with your implement(s).
I've been watching videos of the "laying string attached plates over the tops of blobs" method.
Many of the examples shown have the implement leaving the ground first and the plates leaving
the ground when the strings slack is finally taken up. This is like getting a head start in a foot race. You are fooling yourself when you win.
If you are going to use this method, be sure that the added plates are not
touching the ground and they get airborne at the same time as the implement.

....The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it's more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don't buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.....
I blame George Bush's friends in Big Ice Cream for this high priced crisis.
I'd like to shop with them and see how they are stretching $100.00 to buy 8 bags of friggin

Let's stop the fancy book learnin' and move forward. Why not purchase a set of grippers that all contests use? All competitors will know where they stand with no guess work.

We are sitting here besides ourselves after reading the scathing diatribe on Ironmind's page concerning "the sets", Certification (old rules vs new rules) and a thinly disguised acerbic criticism of the KTA program.
If the MM set is so easy, why has there been the same guy at the top of the MM ladder for over 2 years? Surely some strength is needed?
The top gripper guys are the ones murdering themselves with choker and MM sets. Not the Fictional Hand people publicizing that they are closing their #2 for 30+ wide reps. Certify on the 4 then get back to us. ;)
N Holle's chapter in the Captain of Crush book, clearly show's a 1 INCH set. This book is constantly referred to as the be all and end all of gripper books by IM. The real problem, as we see it it, rests with IM picking SLOPPY judges for gripper certifications. Their lapse at the helm introduced the abusive two hand closes and foot stomped grippers. Simply tightening up the judging and enforcing a one hand close of one plus inches would have gone a long way to doing things right.
It is clear that the "Fictional" gurus, and broken down legends have had a hand in the increasingly childish snipes at our beloved grip forum.
Jealousy and petty squabbling will be the downfall of our little obsession.
Throw everyone off the list. Fuck the world. ;)

Got up at 5AM, lit a cigar and took the dog for 2 miles.
Busy all day at work, and we get home to be greeted by some slipshod
video from the "legend" proving the origninalbiglieblob is harder to lift
than the imitation blobs we the grip mortals have been cursed with. ;)
Six minutes of video and neither implement is put on a scale, or measured
with a cloth tape and calipers. This video evidence is about as sound as a Hong Kong suit. ;)
Look people, we are sure there are some defective blobs that are bit fatter or thinner than
most. But surely they are on the tail furthest from the bell. They are cast iron for Christ sakes.
But come on grown men acting like jealous school kids because their
"legend" status is growing cloudy, is getting dopey.
We are confident that the truly strong, who dominate the competitive platform
would positively destroy these imaginary blobs.
Time for bed.

in his continuing campaign in isolating thebigliefatmanyork blob as the true lift.
We ask - Was the other "plain vanilla" York blob even weighed? Or was the weight just arbitrarily written on it? Why no attempt/lift on the the thebigliefatmanyork blob? Could it be that "we" are afraid it might get some air and appear the go up with the same effort?
How about someone grab a cloth tape measure and run it around the dimensions of both implements, then show this new mystery blob on a scale?

After all, most of the lifts were done using Plain York Blobs which are only 65% of the
"Genuine Fatman Legend Blob". We are simply fooling ourselves. ;) ;)
We wonder what some legends secretly think about the MashMonster list? ;)

It's sad, many grip newbies got their start from Brookfield's "Mastery of Hand Strength". We, like most, were left with a sense of awe due to his treatment of this "legend", now all we have is someone trying to stay relevant by discounting others far greater achievements.

We are smoking and drinking in parts unknown. The rain was to much of a drag to stay home.
Good to see "legends" continue to demean those unlucky to have a legengary fat man blob.
All blobs vary abit. The one you work with all the time is going to feel different than a strange one. But with time and work the strange one will become familiar. We think that this is the case with the "bigliefatmanblob". We will begin to see that as the bigliefatmanblob receives more attempts, it will just become another blob.
We will stand be past statements - If you are dominating a Blob/Blob50, you are doing fine. Ignore the noise.
